Building Homes for Tsunami Victims in Pulo Aceh
"The Tsunami in December 2004 caused the loss of thousands of lives in Aceh, and made many more homeless.
After the Tsunami, JRS Indonesia worked relentlessly to provide relief to the people in Aceh, and helped to build homes for thousands. On the island of Pulo Aceh, a small island off the tip of Banda Aceh, JRS Indonesia is working to rebuild 106 homes and provide fishing boats for a group of villagers at Meulingge.
To help finance the Pulo Aceh project, JRS Singapore is working in partnership with the Order of Malta to obtain funds from the Singapore Red Cross. The ACCT( Archdiocesan Crisis Co-ordination Team) has also provided financial support this project."

Church of Christ the King - Shan Refugee Project
As part of its mission and outreach programme, the parish of Christ The King decided last year to work with JRS Singapore to help a group of Shan refugees in Northern Thailand. Visit In October 2005, eight parishioners led by Fr Robert and Samuel Tan
joined several JRS members to visit Krung Jor Refugee Camp along the Thai-Burma border. For three days, the parishioners and JRS members lived in a bamboo hut, slept in sleeping bags and experienced a little of the lifestyle of the refugees. They spent the days talking to the refugees, listening to their very moving stories and finding out their needs.
Many of the refugees lost their loved ones as a result of the civil war in Burma. Unable to return home, they now face an uncertain future. There were no medical facilities at the camp, and the children had no proper education.
